This art piece is a natural edge bowl made from green Red Oak and 7 inches long. Green means it was turned while the wood was still wet. It is sanded to 320 grit, left natural, and coated with a clear oil for a satin finish.
This was really a "Vineyard Rescue" art piece. While visiting Mike, a friend and coworker who owns Kohill Vineyard and Winery in Ramona, CA. While visiting his winery, I saw a woodpile. Like most woodturners, I could not just walk by, I had to look through the logs. "Hey Mike, care if I take this log?" He said "Doesn't burn, too dense." "I don't plan on burning it, I'll make somethng out of it for you."
Keeping the bark attached to Red Oak is difficult, but to this day it's still attached.
