Me

Hello, I am Leonard C. Badour, a woodturning artist making unique art in a small, one man studio, one piece at a time, in La Costa, a Southern California oceanside village near San Diego.

Each piece of art is made with all the design, fabrication, and finish perfection that a career mechanical engineer can provide. Since I give most of them away as gifts, it's a labor of love!

All the designs are mine, or yours, or may be influenced by similar art pieces created by other woodturning professionals. I try very hard not to imitate or copy the art of these hardworking professionals since they need to support their families and I only need to support my passions: buying more tools, wood collecting, and of course, woodturning.

If you see something similar to someone else's design, it is an unintentional coincidence. If it was influenced by a class that I attended with another artist, then I have taken steps to give credit to that artist.

Enjoy your self guided website visit!

A while back...

This is what my shop looked like early in my retirement, about 2010: clean, orderly, and the bare essentials. I now know that a woodturner can never have too many tools! So I got busy buying tools, most are for show, but the real, everyday tools I make myself. How? Know what a mill is? Well, there's one of those in my shop too!
This is not a staged picture, I was actually making a Potpourri Bowl when my wife snapped the picture.
It's good to know that without thinking, I am standing erect. Instructors of most classes cover safety first, followed immediately by stance and body position. I must have actually heard them and incorporated the lessons. Notice the dust mask and safety shield what you can't see are the earplugs.

...making sawdust!

Not sure where I am today, but I can usually be found here...

Too Much Info

My given name is Leonard, but lots of other names work as well, just ask my wife, she gets my attention with Lenny ... LC ... LB ... Leo'nerd ... Yoohoo!! (she can't whistle) ... or 'Again' as in "I'm not going to call you ... again!" Maybe there are a few other monikers, but of course, my favorite, is the wood turning guy. So I became the Wood Turning Guy.

My grandfather was a professional woodworker, so I was born with sawdust in my blood, so I really 'wood' rather be in the woodshop!

All of my artwork is created in my studio, each completely handcrafted, one at a time. Each piece is individually designed after examining the raw wood and allowing the natural beauty of the wood to enhance the design of the art piece.

Professionally, I was a mechanical engineer and statistician. As a wood turner, I am a tireless perfectionist ... period.
