This is a Towel Holder made from some very old Rosewood, 12" tall. It was sanded to 400 grit and coated with Waterlox since Rosewood is naturally oily.
Also be warned, Rosewood dust can be toxic.
This was an interesting art piece. It is an find of old Rosewood. The wood had heavy patina and therefore did not need any stain.
Where it was found: a coworker bought a home that had a massive plank in the garage rafters that he could not get down. He asked me if I wanted it of course I did. I cut the plank in half, took it home, and sanded a spot. Interesting wood. It wasn't until I made the Towel Holder and took it to the San Diego Woodturner's meeting that is was identified as old Rosewood.
