Can you have too many roses? I think so when there is just one, it's special, and gets a lot of attention.
This is an oval hollow form, completely over-engineered. As a retired mechanical engineer, it's a always interesting to over-engineer your projects.
My father-in-law, Glenn Ziegle, once told me there comes a time in every project when it's necessary to shoot the engineer and make the damn thing!
Well it's made. The wood is clear Mahogany with a Gaboon Ebony base. Gaboon Ebony is pitch-black throughout and the sawdust is like lamp black. The rose is woodburned following my sketch laying next to the art piece. By the way, when you're woodburning the art piece is almost finished, so if you make a mistake there is no way to fix it, the walls are already too thin.
The whole art piece a natural color. It is sanded to 1200 grit, coated with paste wax, and buffed to a satin finish.
