RING HOLDER
Mahogany 3"

1980

MOTHER-IN-LAW request

Originally, this design was a requested project from my mother-in-law. She wanted something for her everyday rings and jewelry.
So I got busy with a piece of Mahogany and turned a single piece ring bowl.
This particular art piece shows an unusual quality of Mahogany: Chatoyance or Cat's Eye effect it's an optical reflectance effect normally seen in certain gemstones like Tiger Eye, but a very rare occurrence in wood, especially Mahogany. The real brilliance is seen in direct sunlight.

rings and things

This is just a better look inside another Ring Bowl, showing that not all the jewelry needs to be on the spindle.
It has had a lot of use, but shows very little wear and tear the paste wax finish has endured well and can be refinished anytime she wants.
