POTOURRI BOWLS
HOLLOW FORM - VARIOUS WOODS 4"

2000

figured maple

Although most of my Potpourri Bowls are made from Mahogany, a few are made from different woods. This one is Figured Maple and has a unique characteristic: the grain patterns change as you tilt the bowl.

There are quite a few different Pewter Lids, so check the Potpourri Lids section to see all of them. They are all slightly different sizes, so each bowl is custom made to fit.

THE GOLD STANDARD

All of my Potpourri Bowls are hollow form bowls, which means the lip is undercut. Most of the bowls are made from Honduras Mahogany. The entire bowl is sanded to 1200 grit, a super fine smooth grit. The color is natural, coated with paste wax, and buffed to a satin finish that will last a lifetime.

inside look

This bowl developed a stress crack, so it was cut to see the cross section the walls are accurate, thin, and uniform. Most woodturners are competitive about their walls!

my source of honduras mahogany

In 1975, I helped my grandfather, Frank Stieve, unload a truckload of Honduras Mahogany, which was clear, straight grained, 2 1/2 inches thick, and no knots.

Today, 45 years later, the wood is endangered and no longer available. My grandfather left behind some of his wood. Pictured with the plank (left to right) is my Uncle Dave Stieve, his son Ryan, cousin Ian, and me, the Wood Turning Guy.

family heirlooms

These Honduras Mahogany Potpourri Bowls are ready to become family heirlooms. Grandpa Stieve has 50 family members that all get an art piece made from his wood. Also, anyone who knew or visited him also gets one of these special Potpourri Bowls.

Pictured is the first batch.

INCLUDED card

This is the card that is included with each family heirloom.
