This art piece is a natural edge bowl, made from end grain Ash, 6 inches in diameter. Natural edge means the bark originally on the log still remains on the art piece. End grain means the axis of the bowl is in the same direction as the axis of the log. Green means it was turned while the wood was still wet.
It is sanded to 320 grit and oiled for a natural look and feel.
Once in a while when you are learning a new woodturning technique from an instructor, in this case Jimmy Clewes, the practice piece becomes a real piece of art.
