finial lidded box
ash - walnut 3"

2002

miniature jewelry box

This is a lidded box with a finial for a top. It is made from Ash, 3 inches tall, and the small dark feature is a piece of Walnut. It was turned green, meaning the wood was still wet when made. It was finished to 220 grit and left unfinished.

This is an example of a class project, in this case, Cindy Dryzda's class, that was close enough to an art piece to keep. I have no plans to finish sand or oil it because I want to know how well I did straight from the lathe.

close-up of finial

This is a close-up of the finial. During class, we learned that the form or proportions of the finial were very important. The proportions shown are the ones that usually are most appealing and taught by Cindy Drozda from her years of experience.

opened

This is what it looks like inside, just large enough for a ring or two.
